A new report from George Washington University has found that the average yearly cost for being obese has increased by almost $5,000 for women and $3,000 for men. Factor in the cost of an early death, and the number climbs to $8,500 and $6,500 respectively.
With obesity, not only is there a higher risk of diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, stroke, and many other diseases, life expectancy is much less. And now there’s a “bonus” of nearly $10,000 added to an overweight person’s yearly expenses.
Degenerative disc disease is a misnomer. It is neither degenerative nor a disease. The term “degenerative” is confusing, because it refers to the disc and not the symptoms. It was not meant to imply that the condition will get worse — though it often does. It is a condition produced by a damaged disc that may (but likely does not) produce pain.
